CITY COLLEGE–Fifty years ago, on April 22, 1969, the Black and Puerto Rican Student Community of City College convened in the wee hours of the morning to lock the gates of the South Campus, shutting out students, faculty, and staff with the purpose of eradicating racial disparity at CCNY. The students took over 17 CCNY buildings and effectively shut down the school for two weeks, refusing to relent without the recognition of five demands.
