After 110 minutes of action, the back of the nets remained unfazed, and the Brooklyn College and College of Staten Island’s (CSI) Women’s Soccer teams drew, 0-0, after two overtimes Saturday.
In front of the second-largest home crowd of the year at the Brooklyn College Field, the Lady Bulldogs defended superbly, but their Staten Island foes matched them.
The teams mustered little on offense, as they combined for 20 shots on goal during the game, including the two overtime periods. Brooklyn College junior Sayla Flores had a game-high three shots on goal.
Both teams’ goalkeepers played well, as BC freshman Rebecca Harmata saved the eight shots that came her way, and her opposite number, CSI senior Victoria Donegan, stopped 12 shots.
Both teams struggled with violations, as the Lady Bulldogs went offside 10 times and referees assessed the Dolphins with 13 fouls.
The draw was the first for the BC Women’s Soccer team since the 2012 season.
With the draw, Brooklyn now sits at 4-7-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), while the College of Staten Island pushed their record to 6-6-2 overall and 5-0-1 in CUNYAC play.
The Lady Bulldogs hope to continue their strong conference play this week, as they have three home conference games against York College, Medgar Evers College, and the City College of New York.
